Ayu's best 10 PVs- 7.《Marionette》

《Marionette》, 2008.

Youtube version(Official, 1.5 minutes):

I have to state it again:
I really like those creepy and eye catchy things for entertainment.

Not horrible, no ghost or bloody hell....but creepy, to make me focus right on the plot.

Ayu played a brainless doll role for few times, such as Surreal, Alterna, Beautiful fighters.....and this one. Each time she is able to break through it(smile:) Most Ayu's songs talk about love and freedom, this one is about freedom.

As plain as its song title suggested, in this PV, Ayu acts as a marionette tied by a music box, and she is trying to break it through. I thought it was Rococo, but the setting is actually in "aristocratic European♥" style (information from Wikipedia).

Together with another dancers wearing white contact lens, Ayu performs quite a number of uncontrolled, involuntary body movement like a cerebral palsy outbreak(sorry Ayu! this is what a science graduate can conclude...).....or should it be named a "spring- dance" (I invented this word, again), I find it quite fascinating all the way through.

The marionettes are set free from their restraints from the half way, and so as their contact lenses break(They look possessed in those lenses!). The mistress(another Ayu's role) looks at her dolls and walks away.

The message of this song is simple too. Important messages are always cliché, simple as they are being. Try to be yourself, and keep being yourself. Choose what you love, and love what you have chosen. When you are pursuing your dream: you may get hurt, you may not even be able to see a beam of light, you may just want to give up...but this is you. If you just be true to yourself, you feel alive.

That is what I always bear in mind when myself struggle through life, and cannot yet land on my feet. Six years from now, but I still remember the thrill when I first heard this song(The Japanese in this song is easy, just knew the word at the beginning).

Stay hungry, stay alive. You only get one shot.
.....Must be a stunning one shot :)

I watched Ayu's tour at Hong Kong 2008 too!!
(flower)

It was her 10 anniversary(Tour of Guilty)...and the PV setting was re-visualized on the stage in the fabulous show. This one on Youtube was in Taipei. The same song list had been using during the Tour.

Self-Reflection:

Ayu's best 10 PVs- 6.《Part of Me》

Part of Me, 2007

Youtube version(Official, 1.5 minutes):

That is my other retro favorite for the Japanese stylish ballad, referring to an interview of Ms. Hamasaki, she handed in this song “few days after the deadline(laugh)”. POM was produced in 2007 spring, the period when she released her albumA Best 2.

For the A Best3.28 collection in 2001, it was not released under her own will, she was too much a superstar at that golden time, and Avex seriously had it need and control to bush up sales record. Finally came out as Ayu v.s. Utada Hikaru(Both topped an impeccable history, over 4 million copies are sold by each).

(Year 2001)

Ayumi thought that an album should summarize a singer’s bests, and she was far from that at the moment (humble kid…). As rebellious as she was, that was why she had a tear-drop cover in herA Best, showing she was manipulated by the “A-factory”.
(For more, view her ”浜崎あゆみ: 光と影25岁の绝望と决断(Ayumi Hamasaki: Light and Shadow, 25 years old’s despair and determination)” interview)

 (Year 2007)
At the time 2007 Ayu was no longer controllable. The A Best 2of course was released under her concepts and well arranged. She was more laid back at that time, and she well planed the things in the album. A Best 2is divided into “white” and ”black” discs, “white” concludes the happy songs and the “black” have the darks songs from Ayu.Part of Meis the only new song for the whole album, allocated in the “black” disc.

The enchanting Part of MePV brings audience a retrospective story, which is very pleasant to watch the poetic graphics(sad love story though).

The whole story is about reincarnation and inter-crossing karma. (I think)Life is somehow like a flowing river, on the one hand somethings may flow merge into, and become 'part of you'; on the other hand, there are things that would leave eventually, and you can just let it go(let it go~ let it go~~).

Ayu acts as a kabuki or princess in the ancient time (Meiji?? Or Showa?? I don’t know much about Japanese History, I am an engineer graduate!:-) With the enormously gorgeous kimono, she was waiting under the sakura tree for her lover. A dramatic change in the era she is standing, and lonely she is abandoned.

She takes put her hairpin and died from this (forget about the logic!). The fallen princess is like a butterfly in the narration, and this little insect is captured by a mantis (I hate this organism!!!! Just searched for the correct vocabulary of it and its images come out!!!!!! So ill I knew it is not grasshopper!!!!!!!!).

In Mandarin language, there is a phase ”use mantis to stop a carriage”, meaning that this move is useless, and telling one is too arrogant to doing something bold. In some ways it matches the concept that the doom is inevitable.

The killer mantis, under his(or 'its'?) karma, is later suffocated by a snake. The fallen Ayu is then decomposed and nourished into a big tree, new lives begin and continue.

[To comfort saddened audiences, Ayu is awake in another beautiful kimono. She meets Shuya(the male character) again in a dreamy place. ]

Other POM performance in 2011 Power of Music :

I watched Ayu singing this song in 2007 Hong Kong Coliseum too<Tour of Secret>. She sang this song with a 4kg kimono, had been a great 9-anniversary(She debuted for 16 years now btw...)!

MRI(Eye mask)/

今天是關於MARUICHI(丸一)日本公司,

EYE MASK,

Hong Kong style hotpot

Ayu's best 10 PVs- 5.《Step You》

Here comes the fifth one of this series.
Step You, 2005.

Youtube version(Official, 2 minutes):

“Is this love?” is the other c/o song for this 35th single by Ms Ayumi Hamasaki, both songs talk about being a secret admirer to a man. For the catchy main song “Step You”, the lyrics character shows up very girly and appealing, and keeps excited for the crush;

whereas in the “ITL” PV, the whole atmosphere is rather depressed and pessimistic, Ayu was broken inside out and whispered in the chorus: ”Why the one you have chosen wasn’t me”, how devastating.

Let’s rewind back to “Step You”.
I recalled that it was a very weird song name to me,
Maybe I was in my Form 5 English level at that time
(HKCEE huh? sad), I was thinking
“What??! Step on somebody you ain’t no ant???!!!”
Later it turns out the meaning when Ayu revealed more about it means is “following YOU”.

For the whole “Step You” promotional video,
It has a very very simple story line
[compared to other Ayu’s videos],
which is all about how “transformative” a female can be.

At the power generation area or factory something, a man (an unimportant character anyway) comes near to a beacon, and a mini Ayu is there.

One line in the chorus is
(1-4, Being more greedy I am now)

[1st]

In the film it just look like the man is being greedy for more styles,
And Ayu is fulfilling his wish by giving him four kinds of look.
(She changed her looks each time the romanji roulette turns).

Apart from the first one elegant look,
The second is dark mysterious.
[2nd]

Another third look is soft and girly,
[3rd]

and the forth style is the wild sexy type.
[Last]

Near the climax is that the unsatisfied man rotates it too much and sounds like a explosion comes off.
(I LOLed at first time watching here,
clearly a freakout!!)…

An all-in-one Ayu pops up and sings in the rain, and finally four Ayus disappeared. This is like the fairy tale of the “What’s in the lake? The gold one or the cheap one?”, a greedy doesn’t get a penny. Well....rip.

Full 《Step You》PV on:

P.S. Ayu publicly sang this song in her 2006 and 2010 tour, the (Miss)understood tour had made her in chains and it was a magic trick on the stage.

And in the Rock’n’Roll circus(this video) she looked really nice in the cocktail glass too. I also put it here to enjoy. Like the whipping host and 2:30 the "whocares", girls are really complicated inside out!^^
